the level sit
A Sunday-evening sit, for the hour this page once named — when the weekend starts leaning toward Monday and the whole body quietly leans with it.
Sit with both feet flat, and take a moment to distribute yourself: weight even between the two feet, the two sitting bones, a palm on each knee. Level, like a verandah floor.
Breathe in through the nose for a count of four.
Rest at the top, a heartbeat and a half.
Out for a slow count of six — and as the breath leaves, notice the lean. Toward the uniform to be ironed, the tiffin question, the nine o'clock. Do not scold it; just let the weight come back to centre, left and right agreeing again.
Settle, then again. Three rounds: find the lean, come back level.
Monday will arrive regardless, and finds a level house easier to enter gently. You can stop here.
