the Sunday-evening sit
There is a particular heaviness that arrives around sunset on Sunday — school tomorrow, the week's engine starting somewhere in the distance. Children feel it. So do you. This sit is for exactly that hour.
Sit anywhere. If the child drifts near, let them stay; nobody needs to speak, and this must not turn into teaching.
Breathe in slowly while you count four.
Rest at the top — a heartbeat and a half.
Let the breath out for a count of six, and let Monday wait outside the door; it cannot come in early no matter how it knocks.
Settle for a small moment.
One round. Take three.
If the child has quietly copied your breathing, say nothing about it. Some things are taught best by being left completely alone.
